Sculling Program
MHRA has a proud history of sculling on the Hudson River going back 50 years. Masters rowers often migrate to sculling for the technical challenge and for the scheduling flexibility. We offer a range of sculling opportunities including recreational sculling and coaching for novices to competitive scullers.
MHRA offers coached sculling sessions several mornings per week with experienced adult sculler/coaches. There is no additional fee for this program. It is valued by many to improve skill and confidence after participating in our summer Sculling Clinic. The annual Sculling Clinics are led by Bill Davies, a knowledgeable coach and competitive rower with over 30 years of sweep and sculling experience.
MHRA has a certification program that assures a basic skill level for scullers to row unsupervised. Certified scullers meet early on most mornings for recreational and competitive practices. The club provides sculling boats (singles, doubles and a quad) or our members can rent private boat racks through the Hudson River Rowing Association. Fill out the Boat Rack Waiting List and mail it to: "Hudson River Rowing Association, P.O. Box 506, Poughkeepsie, NY 12602". Notify us that you are on the private boat rack waiting list.
Competitive masters scullers will find a supportive atmosphere for working out and improving technique when they join MHRA. Several of our members compete regularly in masters sculling events in singles and doubles. Sculling scrimmages are held periodically in the summer for local rowers. Scheduling and attending races is up to the individual sculler.

Beginners will learn the basics of sculling while intermediates will improve their skills and confidence on the water.
